Abstract

The accelerated integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into educational environments has given rise to what this article conceptualizes as emotional-digital learning ecosystems: adaptive infrastructures that combine algorithmic personalization with socio-emotional mediation. Drawing on self-determination theory, the control-value theory of achievement emotions, and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2), this theoretical-conceptual article examines how AI-driven personalization influences school motivation among Latin American student populations. Through a critical, argumentative literature review, the study identifies convergences and tensions between the technical promise of adaptive learning systems and the structural barriers that persist across the region, including connectivity gaps, insufficient teacher training, and algorithmic bias. The analysis integrates public secondary statistics from UNESCO and CEPAL with peer-reviewed empirical studies to contextualize the discussion. Findings suggest that personalization enhances motivation primarily when it is emotionally attuned rather than merely adaptive in a technical sense, and that unresolved equity gaps risk reproducing, rather than resolving, educational inequality. The article closes with a research agenda oriented toward culturally situated, emotionally responsive AI models for Latin American education.
